What Are You Grateful For?

Saying “Thank you” is powerful! Being Thankful is more powerful! The word gratitude means the feeling of being grateful or thankful! The feeling…I am not necessarily a proponent of being emotional or driven by your feelings, but in this case, concerning gratitude, the power of gratitude comes by way of your feelings. The minute you begin to remember the goodness of people, it will put a smile on your face. The minute you recognize that you are alive and well…and there are worse places and circumstances you can be in…in that moment, you allow gratitude to wash over your heart…you can’t stay in some negative feeling or frustration! It’s good to be alive! It’s great to have people around you who care deeply for you. Gratitude can shift you if you let it….

  • Gratitude can lift a person from depression!
  • Gratitude can change a frown into a smile!
  • Gratitude can shift the energy in a room!
  • Gratitude can reunite broken relationships!
  • Gratitude can repair broken hearts!
  • Gratitude can change your perspective on life and living!

Just saying “thank you”, can change the most challenging situation you might find yourself in. Writing it down and remembering what you are grateful for can change your paradigm – your attitude about life and difficulties you are going through. What Are You Grateful For?

Here are a few ways you can incorporate gratitude in your life on a daily basis:

  1. Write personal “thank you” notes – sit down and do it the old fashion way – pen and paper
  2. Call a friend or family member on the phone and tell them
  3. Write in your journal what you are thankful for each and every day
  4. Take a walk – a gratitude walk and remember – enjoy the world around you as you walk
  5. Acts of kindness – touch someone else by giving to them unexpectedly, for no reason other than gratitude

Saying “thank you” can be two of the most difficult words for people to speak and yet there is so much power in the acknowledgement of what these two words mean…to yourself and to others. Thought For The Day! – “Spend Your Day!”

The day belongs to you and what you do with it will determine whether you were productive or not. For leaders, productivity is everything. Another word for productivity might be results. What did you set out to accomplish when you woke up today? Did you achieve those results? If not, you didn’t win the day.

Time is the most valuable coin in your life. You and you alone will determine how that coin will be spent. Be careful that you do not let other people spend it for you.” By Carl Sandburg

As I sat with parents yesterday afternoon, one of them, a dad shared that he lost 40 pounds in one month! WOW! That is impressive. When I asked how he got those results, he began to share the price he paid to have those results. He said “no” to some food items that most of us eat without thinking, like breads and pastas. I don’t know about you, but I like both of those items. He is able to walk away from them and select fruits and vegetables for a season in order to get the results he wants to get. He also exercises a lot. Back when he was losing the 40 pounds he didn’t give himself options for walking. He went every day. When excuses rose up, he chose to push them aside and go walking anyway! That is determination to get results!

As aspiring leaders or even as seasoned leaders it can be easy to allow challenges, issues and even things we like, to get in our way of the results we say we want to have. I was challenged to hear the price this parent is willing to pay to have the results he wants for his health. He said to all of us a the table enjoying a pizza, “every meal is a battle and what you do (your choices) will determine whether you win.”

I believe that thought applies to choices and decisions that leaders make everyday. In your organization, even in your personal life. Your day belongs to you – at the end of the day did you get the results you intended to have when you began the day? If not, what got in your way of winning the battle for that day? Assess it, and make the adjustment and determine that tomorrow is a new day of opportunity and you get to win! Enjoy your day today!
